Iced Earth is forced to cancel appearance at Metal Hammer Paradise Festival 2016 due to singer Stu Block’s illness. See statement from Stu below.

“Hello Iced Family!! Stu here, well I have some crappy news, it looks like I have the Zombie Plague!! It's cool because I have always wanted to see what it would be like to be a Zombie, so I'm embracing it! Seriously though, a day ago I wasn't feeling very good and now it has blown into Acute Strep Throat with Bronchitis/ Chest infection with Flu like symptoms and a touch of what I swear is the Zombie Plague according to the Doctor... (well not the Zombie part, LOL) I can't talk and can't swallow so I'm groaning/mumbling and spitting up what can only be alien mucus eggs into a jar. We never like canceling shows, EVER, but needless to say we won’t be able to perform at Metal Hammer Paradise Fest on November 12th. I won't be fully recovered by then and I want to be 110% for the Athens and Thessaloniki Greece shows at the end of November and the Headbangers Ball tour starting in December!! I hope you all understand, but health is always the first priority. Cant wait to rock for you guys!! See you all soon!!! BRAINS!!! Stu”

Iced Earth founder, Jon Schaffer remarks “We’re saddened to have to pull the plug on this gig, but my brother’s health is clearly the priority, and we have a pretty grueling schedule right around the corner, so he needs the time to rest and get well. We promise to try to make up the gig in the future and apologize to our friends at Metal Hammer and our fans for these unfortunate circumstances.”

Iced Earth will resume work on their 12th studio album after touring and a short break for the holidays

Brothers and Sisters,

Please join us in welcoming Jake Dreyer, our new lead guitar player, to the Iced Earth family.  We’re excited for Jake to be a part of the team as he has the talent, drive, and the personality we were looking for.  Jake joined Stu and I last week to do some tracking at Independence Hall and he hammered out some ripping guitar solos on several songs from the new album.  Jake will play on the upcoming Iced Earth studio album and will perform his first live show with us in November at Hammerfest in Germany.

I want to personally thank all of the guitarists who auditioned for the position, it was an overwhelming response, and there are many very talented guys out there.  So again, thank you for your passion and interest.

We are progressing at an excellent rate on the new record and I can say with all sincerity that this will be one of the most significant albums in the Iced Earth catalog.  We are pumped.  It’s the next level.

Stay tuned, and best to you all,

Jon Schaffer

“After close to ten years as a guitarist in Iced Earth, the time has come for me to step away. Some of you know, but many do not, that I have a child with Autism. In the past I had a great support system that has allowed me to pursue a career in music. That is no longer the case and it has forced me to make a difficult decision. I’ve always believed that family comes first, and now it is time for me to focus on that. The demanding life style of being in a professional heavy metal band is no longer an option for me. Knowing the band is focused on a new album and touring cycle, and given my circumstances, this is the best time for me to step down. Playing in Iced Earth has been a great experience. It’s taken me around the world many times and given me the chance to meet many of my heroes, as well as play in front of crowds larger than I ever dreamed of. I personally want to thank Jon and the guys for the music and the amazing times through the years. Thank you to the fans for understanding and for your support.”- Troy Seele

Iced Earth singer Stu Block remarks on Seele’s departure, “It’s very sad that Troy is leaving. He will be missed and will always be considered family to us. I wish him the best of luck in everything he does.”

Jon Schaffer, Iced Earth founder, states, “Troy was a good friend before he became a part of the team, and always will be. I understand and respect his decision. We shared some of the most amazing times of our lives together. We laughed hard, and we laughed often. Be well brother. We all wish you the very best.”

Troy Seele’s last gig with the band will be Knotfest in Mexico City, October 16th, 2016.

Headliner of this festival tour will be U.S. metal gods ICED EARTH! Formed in Florida in the mid-80s, the band celebrated its international breakthrough with the album “Burnt Offerings”, which defined the band’s trademark style between power and thrash metal. Their last album “Plagues Of Babylon” came out in 2014 and charted on #5 in Germany. To this day, the band is recognised as one of the most successful traditional metal acts.

Finish headbangers ENSIFERUM are considered one of the most successful musical exports from Northern Europe. Integrating traditional instruments such as the Finnish kantele into their rousing, aggressive metal sound, they can rely on a rabid fan-base and recently scored #1 in the Finnish charts as well as #15 in Germany for the latest album “One Man Army”.

Earlier in this year Canadian / American Death Metal Act KATAKLYSM completed an incredibly successful tour throughout Europe covering forty four cities in support of their new album “Of Ghosts And Gods”. The band is considered as one of the biggest and well-established acts in Death Metal for many years now and stands out through their characteristically musical interplay between aggressive drum sounds and melodic guitar tracks and crushing grooves , the band recently won the Juno award in Canada (Equivalent to a grammy) for best "heavy metal album of the year"  for their latest album "Of Ghosts and Gods "

Modern metal outfit UNEARTH from Massachusetts/USA completes this diverse and absolutely crushing billing. The band’s most recent studio album “Watchers Of Rule” was released in 2014 and this furious live act will perfectly open up the MTV Headbangers Ball tour.

MTV Headbangers Ball was broadcasted for the first time on April 18th, 1987 and quickly became one of the most popular shows on MTV. The show was on air for eight years in the USA and six years in  Europe. Besides music videos, the show also featured interviews with bands as well as specials on particular acts or festivals. The “Triple Thrash Treat” section created a TV platform for more extreme forms of metal, a tradition continued by this series of live events. Just like the TV show, the festival tour aims at presenting the endless variety of metal music offering a platform for established artists as well as newcomers.

Iced Earth Fans,

Iced Earth is in the process of setting up a new headquarters for all things concerning the band, including a new studio for future recordings.  Jon Schaffer has decided to sell some guitars from his massive collection to help finance the new project.   Schaffer states, “I’m selling a few guitars that have been on various recordings as well as some that were bought for my personal collection.  We need to raise a large amount of money to complete the vision of our new headquarters, and begin this new chapter in the bands march to independence, to thrive in the ever-changing music business.  There are some pretty killer guitars in the collection, so I urge die-hard fans, and guitar collectors alike, to go to Carter Vintage Guitars and see what’s there.”

Iced Earth is set to begin the writing process of their 12th studio album in spring 2015.  After a short hiatus, (primarily due to founder, chief songwriter, and guitarist Jon Schaffer’s 2nd cervical fusion surgery), the band is planning their schedule for the remainder of the year.  Iced Earth fans can expect the next album, tentatively entitled The Judas Goat, and the subsequent touring cycle to begin in early 2016.

Schaffer comments on his recovery and the direction of the new album, “The recovery after this surgery has been more difficult than the first time around in 2000.  Although there have been a few setbacks, I am confident that I’m ready to resume my duties in Iced Earth, directing my full attention to the creative process, production, and touring future of the band.” Schaffer continues, “We are looking forward to songwriting and getting back in the studio.  The creative direction of the new album is rife with intense and heavy emotions, as one would expect from an Iced Earth record, as well as a wide variety of lyrical inspirations and themes.”  “I am 100% confident that the bond our band has forged in these last several years will shine through in the music.  It’s a brotherhood in every way, and the fans will feel that.  I couldn’t be more proud of these guys and everything we’ve achieved together.”

Long time drummer Brent Smedley will be returning to the band for the recording and touring of the next album cycle.  Smedley had to step down due to personal family reasons in 2013 shortly before the recording of Plagues of Babylon.  “We are very pleased to have Brent joining us once again; he’s always been a brother and an important part of the Iced Earth legacy,” says Schaffer.

Iced Earth is sure to please fans from all eras of the band’s illustrious history with this next offering of unadulterated heavy metal.
